Looking, listening, questioning and feeling the pulse, giving acupuncture treatments and decocting medicinal herbs … These are our impressions on traditional Chinese medicine. Nowadays, with the deep integration of traditional Chinese medicine and modern technology, traditional Chinese medicine has also begun to move towards technicalization and standardization.
In 2019, the Ministry of Science and Technology established a total of 43 national key projects on “Research on Modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine”. The project of “Demonstration study on standardized cultivation of high-quality authentic traditional Chinese medicinal materials produced in Fujian including Ganoderma lucidum and Pseudostellaria heterophylla and precision poverty alleviation” is the only one that is related to Ganoderma lucidum.
The national key research and development program of China is an integration of the original 973 plan, 863 plan, national science and technology support plan, international science and technology cooperation and exchange special projects, industrial technology research and development funds and public welfare industry scientific research special projects. It is aimed at major social welfare research related to national economy and people’s livelihood as well as strategic, basic and forward-looking major scientific issues, major common key technologies and products related to the core competitiveness of the industry, overall independent innovation capabilities and national security. It provides continuous support and guidance for the main areas of national economic and social development.
Among them, the “Key Special Projects for Modernization of Traditional
Chinese Medicine” project from 2019 to 2021 is focusing on the major areas including prevention and treatment of major diseases with TCM, preventive treatment of diseases in TCM, TCM development and quality control. It runs through basic, clinical and industrial links, which disintegrates the special research tasks into six major respects such as the inheritance and innovation of traditional Chinese medicine theory, the prevention and treatment of major diseases with traditional Chinese medicine, and the protection of traditional Chinese medicine resources. The special research projects are deployed into 23 research directions.
The project on research of Fujian-produced authentic TCM materials including Reishi Mushroom and Radix Pseudostellariae
With researcher Lan Jin from the Institute of Medicinal Botany of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences as the project leader, the project is led by GANOHERB and supported by the Institute of Medicinal Plant Development of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, the Institute of Chinese Materia Medica, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Fujian Medical University, Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University. It effectively links enterprises, universities and institutes, thus having advantages of integrating production, learning, research and application.
The project is established to conduct research on characteristic genes, traits, characteristic fingerprints, exogenous pollution and pharmacological activity in order to create a quality evaluation system that integrates genetics, environment, ingredients and pharmaceutical effects; through the internet of things, barcodes and blocks Chain technology, the establishment of a full chain quality traceability system including breeding, standardized planting, processing, storage and quality evaluation will vigorously enhance the quality of Fujian-produced traditional Chinese medicine and the high-quality development of the TCM industry.

GANOHERB uses technology to give full play to its leading demonstration role
Since the implementation of the project for nearly one year, GANOHERB has fully utilized the advantages of leading enterprises in bases, talents and scientific research to establish a system for the selection and breeding of Ganoderma lucidum, a quality traceability system for the whole industry chain of authentic Ganoderma lucidum medicinal materials and Ganoderma lucidum quality standards and evaluation systems, all of which have achieved phased results.
Since the project was approved to establish by the Ministry of Science and Technology in December last year, GANOHERB has frequently attracted praise from all parties in terms of Ganoderma cultivation, quality traceability, technological innovation and industrial poverty alleviation. It has been selected as the classic case of “One County, One Product” Brand that Revitalizes County in 2019, selected into National Brands Project of Xinhua News Agency and rated as one of the top 100 organic brands in China. In November this year, it was approved to establish a national post-doctoral research station with an aim to continuously strengthen its technological innovation and comprehensive competition.
In order to further ensure the smooth implementation of the aforesaid project and promote the standardization, modernization and international development of the Reishi industry, GANOHERB will hold Summit Forum of High Quality Development of Fujian-produced Traditional Chinese Medicine and Promotion Meeting of the National Key R&D Program of China in Beijing on the 20th of this month.
